A watercolor sketching field trip of the 1st year students from the College of Architecture, SSRU leads by Lecturer Pipat Saksirikasemkul during the 7th – 9th of May, 2019 at Phetchaburi Province. This excursion’s main purpose is to visit the three famous palaces in Phetchaburi namely Phra Nakhon Khiri Palace of Rama IV, Phra Ram Ratchaniwet Palace of Rama V and Mrigadayavan Palace of Rama VI to create a post card output after the 3 days trip.

During the first day, the students visit the interesting architectures with remarkable Thai history. The Rama IV Palace is worth to explore, to witness the distinctive aesthetic design of the buildings.  It has a diverse combination of Thai, European, and Chinese architecture design, Phra Nakhon Khiri or commonly known by the locals as “Khao Wang” spreads out over three separate hilltops with panoramic views of Phetchaburi and the surrounding countryside. A royal temple was also built here with the same style as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok’s Grand Palace and this temple is known as Wat Phra Kaew Noi. Other notable buildings here include the observatory which was a favorite location for King Rama IV, a keen astronomer.

This opportunity will help the students to learn more about the various designs that has been influenced by another culture.
