From 22–25 November 2025, the College of Architecture, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University (SSRU), led by Mr. Phiphat Saksirikasemkul, organized a hands-on workshop entitled “Career Creation through Community Wisdom” with student participation in the Wat Sawat Waree Seemaram Community, Dusit District, Bangkok. The activity aimed to promote career development and income generation based on local wisdom and community resources.

The workshop was designed to encourage community members to apply traditional knowledge and local skills to develop supplementary occupations, strengthen household economic stability, and enhance systematic working skills through practical, experience-based learning that can be applied in real-life contexts.

The training activities were conducted through the following key approaches:

Knowledge transfer from experts and local wisdom holders, focusing on the background, significance, production processes, and creative techniques of local wisdom, enabling participants to understand foundational knowledge before further development.

Demonstration and hands-on practice at every stage, including raw material preparation, crafting, product design, and quality inspection, allowing participants to replicate the processes independently after the training.

Application of local wisdom to contemporary career development, with guidance on modern product design aligned with market demand and community identity, as well as cost calculation, pricing strategies, and income planning.

Enhancement of career management skills, including product development, systematic work processes, raw material management, quality control, and value-added creation to support sustainable occupations.

Creation of a learning exchange platform and community networking, providing opportunities for communities from different areas to share experiences, recognize the value of diverse local wisdom, and explore future collaboration.

This workshop was part of the academic service project titled “Enhancing Quality of Life through Community Wisdom Resources”, under the Art & Culture sub-plan, which focuses on promoting local wisdom alongside cultural development to sustainably improve community quality of life.

The activity also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1: No Poverty, by enabling community members to transform traditional knowledge and local skills into occupations or supplementary income, thereby strengthening household economic security and reducing poverty risks. Additionally, it supports SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by empowering communities through knowledge and local wisdom, fostering community strength, self-reliance, and sustainable urban development.

Overall, the workshop represents a community development process that emphasizes the effective use of local resources and wisdom. It promotes collective learning, knowledge exchange, preservation and dissemination of local wisdom, and the strengthening of community identity, leading to long-term pride and sustainability for urban communities.
